Unlocking Nornir Chests throughout God of War Ragnarok is one of the most effective ways to upgrade Kratos's maximum health and rage stats. Deep within the lush jungle environment of Vanaheim, players can encounter a tricky puzzle hidden inside the Eastern Barri Woods. Understanding how to navigate to this specific location and solve its corresponding rune mechanic will ensure you do not leave valuable upgrades behind.
Finding the Eastern Barri Woods Nornir Chest
To reach this Nornir Chest, players must travel through the Eastern Barri Woods during or after the Creatures of Prophecy main quest. As you explore the forest path, look out for a set of curved stone stairs that lead up toward circular ruins. The chest rests clearly at the top of these ruins, surrounded by three rune spinners that must be set correctly to open it.
Locating and Setting the Rune Spinners
The first spinner is positioned nearby along the stone staircase, though it is initially overgrown with red Hel's Bramble. You can burn away the bramble using the Blades of Chaos or Sigil Arrow chains before spinning it to match the required D rune. The second spinner displaying the F rune is located right next to the chest near a stone archway.
Solving the Final Spinner Riddle
The third spinner requires a keen eye as it is hidden further away through the archway to the left. After clearing out a hostile Wulver in the tight corridor, look southwest into the distance toward a ruined dome. Throw the Leviathan Axe at the right-hand paddle to turn the spinner until it displays the C rune, unlocking the chest.
Rewards for Completing the Nornir Puzzle
Inside the chest, players will claim either an Idunn Apple or a Horn of Blood Mead depending on their current progression. Gathering these essential items periodically strengthens Kratos, making major boss encounters across the realms significantly more manageable. Completing this puzzle also counts toward full regional completion for the Vanaheim realm.
